The law's delay is fairly stunning in these cases (Combs, Weinstein, Epstein, Cosby).

R. Kelly too. And don't forget the USA female gymnasts. It does seem to take awhile to get these done. I suppose getting the January 6 investigators assigned to these cases might help speed things along. They seem to be able to do magic setting up cases and prosecutions.

Venezuelan gangs storm the border with impunity while Merrick Garland and Chris Wray focus on what really matters.

well it maybe worse than that. This is not an FBI case - so Chris Wray has nothing to do with it. This case against P Diddy is being done by DHS - Immigration and Customs Enforcement - Homeland Security Investigations. (HSI). HSI most definitely should be putting a large focus on Venezuelan gangs as they are all illegal aliens. HSI even has an gang investigative program. BUT, their big boss DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas actively brought in these Venezuelans, so its hard for HSI to investigate their boss's actions. So why does HSI do these P Diddy type cases? Before DHS - ICE -- there was the US Customs Office of Investigations and the Immigration and Naturalization Service - Investigations. Both of these organizations have federal special agents under the job series - 1811 -- which is the same job series as FBI, DEA, Secret Service and others special agents. INS was doing human trafficking investigations (sex and labor trafficking) before DHS was created, but theses investigations always involved aliens - either as victims or perpetrators or both. Customs was doing child porn but citizenship was not a factor. After 2003, when these two organizations were merged into ICE/Office of Investigations - they began to do human trafficking investigations without regard to there being an alien involved. At the same time the FBI was doing human trafficking cases that involved aliens also. Oh, and then around 2010, ICE/OI changed its name to Homeland Security Investigations in order to try to separate itself from the immigration enforcement part of ICE. So now its HSI...and they try everything possible to not do immigration related criminal investigations. Also, I have heard that under the Biden administration, the US Attorney's are not keen on accepting immigration cases -- which is something we saw during the last two years of the Obama administration too. So to make a long story short -- the agency that should be investigating all of the illegal alien violent street gangs and international alien smuggling organizations- is looking at P Diddy instead loosely under the guise of human trafficking.

DHS now has a general crimes investigation division - not just legacy immigration and customs.

They have statutory authority to investigate most criminal violations inside the United States.

Not trying to be argumentative :) as I am a fan (I too am blocked by Julie) -- I say all of this as someone who spent 25 years in INS and ICE/HSI with 7 of that being assigned to the Charlotte Division of the FBI JTTF......HSI is the main investigative agency for DHS. They have general arrest authority, but they classify each case under one of their 15 specific investigative programs - and there is not one called "general crimes". Each case has to fall under one of these programs because case numbers are assigned with codes denoting which of these categories and subcategories the case is about. HSI is working this under the human trafficking investigative program. But! HSI has broadened the scope of some of its traditional customs and immigration investigative programs to cover more modern things and does not worry about if it has a nexus to the border. But still, the agency purports its jurisdiction in all of its programs as having or potentially having a nexus to the border (and that means anything that has a piece outside the US -- not what people think when they hear border and think of the US-Mexico border.). 100% of any movement expanding away from the legacy case work has been pushed solely by career managers in HSI which have always predominately been from the Customs side. They finally got a DHS secretary who will go along with their wishes. Mayorkas does this because he too wants to dismantle all immigration enforcement and he is willing to give the career people anything they want as long as they wont complain about his opening the border. Historically, end of years stats have shown that HSI has spent around 70% of its case hours worked as drugs and financial -- leaving the other 30% split amongst the other 13 programs. And then its a whole other discussion about detailing 1/3 (2000 agents) of HSI to USSS from Sept 1 through the election in November.

You have the insider expertise to know how the sausage is made at DHS. It is a very unusual Dept by virtue of how it came into existence. I had very little involvement with DHS on anything other than human trafficking matters -- but I did have one great case which was the first jury trial on a human trafficking case after passage the TVPA of 2000. It was an actual involuntary servitude case involving young men brought from Tonga to the US to work as laborers for a landscaping contractor for far less than minimum wage.

But recently I have come into contact with a younger HSI Special Agent on a fraud case and I'm quite impressed by the quality of his work. He is not a legacy ICE or Customs agent. His thoroughness rivals IRS Criminal Investigators I've worked with in the past.

Ouch. He is done. Cooked. Hopefully it comes out. Whether it be whistleblower or testimony either way he better be protected in the joint. A lot of people will want to get to hi to end this. Sad man. A lot of people harmed and kids. Sad indeed.
